Hairdressing Trainee/Apprentice


Description:   Everyone’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the clients receive a top quality service from professional, friendly, motivated staff. As an apprentice it is your role to aid the stylists in their jobs so they can deliver the best service to our clients.

Working closely with the stylists’ means you are always on show and it is important that you are well presented, self-motivated and friendly. You will be liaising with the clients on a regular basis and you must behave in a professional and informed manner at all times. Above all trainees must be coachable, able to take instruction and from time to time constructive criticism. It is also your responsibility to observe whenever possible, to make it your business to be well informed about the company and the products and service it sells.


Trainees are accountable for:


Serving refreshments to clients.

Keeping an on going check of client’s progress throughout their visit.

Aiding the colour technicians by:

• Mixing colours

• Assisting the colour technicians during application of colour

• Rinsing off colours

• Applying treatments

• Taking part in some hands on colour work (under supervision)

• Washing tint bowls and brushes

• Maintaining a clean tidy colour work environment during the working day

• Managing client expectations by informing them of progress through to handover to the stylist

   Shampooing for the stylist as required.

   The general tidiness of the salon, including sweeping, cleaning the kitchen and the reception area.

   Assisting in the smooth running of the reception desk, 

   and from time to time, being the receptionist.

   Cleaning equipment - brushes, combs, clips, tint bowls, trolleys, etc.

   Getting models for in-salon training.

   Running short errands out of the salon.

   Assisting other staff where necessary. 


Skills Required: Basic literacy, numeracy, and I.T. skills. Good listening and interpersonal skills.


Qualifications Req:  Basic GCSE qualification pref: English and maths

Weekly Wage:  To be confirmed depending on age and experience


Working week: Monday to Saturday with one day off and weekly in-house training sessions


Future Prospects: To become a well trained hairdresser with the realistic prospect of securing permanent employment with Exeter hair and beauty or other discerning salons.
